BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), the leading provider of "clean" demand response solutions, announced today that it has signed a demand response agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE). The agreement is the second contract in California signed by ECS this year and will extend to 2012. ECS'' program will target load reductions that do not require the use of back-up/distributed generation, with an emphasis on lowering emissions and providing "clean & green" demand response.

The agreement is a year-round contract to provide on-call demand reductions to SCE in both the winter and summer months. The contract calls for day-ahead notice for customers and caps the number of hours customers can be called upon. Earlier this year, ECS launched two highly successful demand response programs in both the Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) territories. One month after launching its PG&E program, ECS'' customers contributed over 60 percent of available demand response in PG&E''s AMP program, with five other providers combining to account for the remaining 40 percent. The new agreement with SCE is subject to final approval by the California Public Utilities Commission.

ECS will aggregate load curtailment from industrial, institutional, and commercial customers within SCE''s service territory. Unlike most other demand response service providers, ECS typically does not remotely control a customer''s site, but allows customers the choice of how load curtailment will occur at their facilities.

ECS President and CEO Glen Smith said, "We are excited about this opportunity to work with Southern California Edison to bring them the significant demand response they need as the demand for electricity continues to increase in their territory. Our program, which will be marketed as ''Cut Back California,'' will help the utility and the State of California kill two birds with one stone: first, by reducing demand during peak times for price relief and grid stability; and secondly, doing so in a manner which reduces carbon emissions along the way."

ECS is the leading developer and provider of "clean and green" demand response solutions for both utilities and wholesale markets. ECS provides demand response solutions focused on load-curtailment with limited or no use of distributed generation, enabling solutions that reduce greenhouse gases and lower emissions. ECS offers turnkey, administrative and a la carte demand response services. For more information, call 877-711-5453 or visit www.ecsdemandresponse.com.
