SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The PGA Tour stopped at La Cantera in San Antonio this past week for the Valero Texas Open Golf Tournament, in a tradition that dates back to 1922. Wedged into a dramatic and gorgeous section of the Texas Hill Country, the golf courses at La Cantera are legendary. Breathtaking changes in elevation between tee boxes and greens, craggy white cliffs and infinite views of San Antonio make for exciting golf.

But the harsh terrain also presented challenges for one group that helps make the fun happen: Aggreko LLC, the global leader in temporary power generation and temperature control solutions.
While corporate sponsors, members of the media and golf fans enjoyed air-conditioned tents and closed-circuit TV, Aggreko Event Services made sure that over 30,000 ft of temporary electrical distribution equipment kept the power coming. Aggreko Event Services provided over 1,000 tons of climate control capabilities, as well as over 2.5 megawatts of electrical power -- enough to power 2,000 homes.
"In addition to being a great showcase for the PGA Tour''s brightest young stars, the Valero Texas Open established a PGA Tour record in 2006 with $7 million in charitable contributions. We recently announced that our 2007 contributions are expected to reach $8 million ... another record," said Tony Piazzi, President and CEO of Golf San Antonio, the event management team. "With our recent growth, we looked for an event services company that was experienced and could handle the difficult Hill Country terrain of The Resort Course at La Cantera. Aggreko has risen to this challenge and plays a significant role in helping us deliver a memorable entertainment experience for our sponsors and spectators."
Aggreko supplied all the power and temperature control throughout the golf course, including VIP tents and corporate chalets. In addition, the post-tournament benefit banquet and awards ceremony was held in a 166 ft x 300 ft tent that will required about 800 tons of cooling.
"This is the second year we have worked this event, and the terrain has definitely been one of our bigger challenges," said Bill Ayers, San Antonio Representative for Aggreko. "The layout at this particular course is very tight, with parts of the course on the sides of steep hills. However, our crew has worked closely with all the other vendors to make this a first-class event."
In the past year alone, Aggreko has provided layout design, project management and event-specific equipment to golf tournaments throughout the United States, including the PGA tournament, the Ryder Cup, the US Open and the Administaff Classic in Houston, TX.
The local Texas crew on call during the tournament includes Aggreko''s San Antonio-based team: Mark Stavrakis Jr. and Scott Black (Lead Technicians); David Warneke (Operations Manager); Mike Westra (Logistics Manager).
